Description :

King Power, the company behind Leicester City and their 2015 16 Premier League championship is facing GBP multimillion corruption charges in Thailand. King Power, owned by Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha and his son Aiyawatt, is accused of having defrauded the Thai government of its agreed share from the company's lucrative duty-free monopoly at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport which amounts up to 14B baht or GBP 327 million. Reportedly, one of the executives at King Power had colluded with airport employees to only pay 3% as opposed to the 15% required charge of duty-free revenues to the government. Three King Power companies, one company official and 14 Airport of Thailand officials have been charged by Thai courts. King Power denies the allegations and says that, if brought to trial, the case would be vigorously defended.

King Power is understood to have filed a libel lawsuit against Charnchai in February of 2017, claiming defamation in statements he made alleging corruption before his criminal petition against the company reached the court. Charnchai could not be reached for comment.
